API keys and agents

An API key lets a script, or an AI agent such as Claude, read and change your workspaces. Make them in Settings › API keys.

Make a key

  1. Choose its Kind:
    • Local keys reach workspaces on this computer, while Sorus is open. Settings shows the address to use. On macOS and Linux only, for now.
    • Cloud keys reach synced workspaces through the Sorus server, even when Sorus is closed.
  2. Name it, and choose Read or Edit.
  3. Choose All workspaces or pick some.
  4. For a local key, under Reaches, you can limit it to some types of one workspace, and choose what else it may use: files, every object, pages, the day log, the calendar.
  5. Pick when it expires, and click Create key.

Copy the key when it's shown: Sorus shows it only once. Revoke stops a key working.

Localhost HTTP in the same section also serves local keys over http://localhost, for tools that can't use the default address.

Use it with an AI assistant

Sorus works with assistants that support MCP, such as Claude Desktop and Claude Code, through the Sorus MCP server. Give the assistant your key and the address shown in Settings. It can do only what the key allows: a Read key can look but not change anything.

Keep keys safe

Treat a key like a password. Give each tool its own key, choose the shortest expiry that works, and revoke a key you no longer use.
