Importing and exporting

Both are part of Sorus: in Settings › Import & export, and in the palette.

Import

Drop files or a folder on the page list. Or, in the palette, choose Import files… or Import a folder….

  • Markdown and text files (.md, .markdown, .txt) become pages. A page is named after the file's first # heading, or else its file name.
  • A folder comes in as a tree: subfolders become pages with pages inside. A notes folder, such as an Obsidian vault, keeps its shape.
  • A CSV file becomes a page with its table, which you can then make a type of.
  • Other files, such as images and PDFs, are kept as files. Ones no page shows go on their folder's page, or, imported on their own, on an Imported files page.
  • Links between the files come in as links: Obsidian's [[Page]] and ![[photo.png]], and Markdown's [Page](Page.md) and ![](photo.png).
  • Hidden files are skipped.

From Obsidian

Import your vault's folder. Its pages keep their folders and their links, and the pictures they show come in with them.

From Notion

In Notion, choose Export, Markdown & CSV, and include subpages. Import the .zip it gives you as it is. Notion's IDs are taken out of the names, a page's subpages go inside it, and its databases come in as tables.

Export

In Settings › Import & export, click Markdown…, or choose Export pages as Markdown… in the palette. Then choose where to save.

  • Every page becomes a Markdown file, nested in folders as your page list is. A page with pages inside is a file beside a folder of the same name.
  • An object's fields go in its file's front matter.
  • Objects embedded in a page become links to their files.
